What Sets Black Rhino Construction Apart
When you’re dealing with structural outdoor work, the partner you work with matters as much as the materials they use. We bring decades of Colorado-specific construction experience and a straightforward approach to every project, no matter the size.
Built for Colorado Terrain
Colorado Front Range properties bring steep slopes, clay-heavy soil, and runoff that moves fast. We’ve spent 25 years building retaining walls, drainage systems, and graded sites that account for freeze-thaw cycles, spring snowmelt, and real-world water movement.
No Subcontractors, No Handoffs
When you hire Black Rhino Construction, the work stays with our crew and our equipment. We plan the job, show up on site, and carry it through to completion without passing it off to outside crews or unfamiliar hands.
Common Questions About Our Services
What's the difference between a retaining wall and a decorative wall?
A retaining wall holds back soil and manages load from the hillside behind it. Structural walls require proper drainage, compacted base, and materials rated for the weight they’re holding. Decorative walls are shorter, non-load-bearing, and used for visual separation. Most residential projects need structural walls.
How deep do you excavate for site prep?
Depends on what we’re preparing the site for. Foundation excavation goes to stable soil or engineered depth per plans. Drainage trenches for French drains typically run 18-24 inches deep. Patio base prep is 8-12 inches depending on soil conditions. We assess each site individually.
Do French drains actually work in Colorado clay soil?
Yes, when installed correctly. Clay soil is exactly why most properties need subsurface drainage. We trench deep enough to get below the clay layer when possible, use proper gravel bedding, and slope the pipe so water actually moves. Surface solutions don’t work here.
What size retaining wall can you build?
We handle retaining walls of any height for residential and commercial projects. Wall specifications depend on slope, soil conditions, and site requirements. Walls over 4 feet typically require engineered plans, which we coordinate as part of the project.
Do you work on commercial properties?
Yes. We handle site prep, grading, and retaining walls for commercial projects including parking lots, HOA common areas, and new construction sites. Project size ranges from small HOA repairs to large-scale excavation and wall installation.
How long does a typical project take?
Paver patios and small drainage projects typically take 1-2 weeks. Retaining walls run 2-4 weeks depending on height and length. Larger excavation and site prep projects are quoted individually based on scope.
